Greeting from the Governor of the Irkutsk Region

Dear friends!

The year of 2017 will go down in history as the Year of ecology and specially protected natural areas.

For us carrying out the Baikal International Ecological Water Forum is certainly an important step in solving primary tasks related to conservation of Lake Baikal. In 2017 the event received international status for the first time: it was attended by representatives from 23 countries.

During plenary sessions, round tables and thematic sections the most important topics on implementation of the state policy for preserving the unique ecosystem of Lake Baikal, systematic approach to improve Lake Baikal natural territory, international cooperation of water regions, formation of ecological culture and ecological education of the youth and application of innovative water treatment technologies were discussed.

The task that was set – to find solutions on environmental problems and realize the motto of the forum "World purity standard - Lake Baikal". In such a way, best Russian and foreign technologies associated with wastewater treatment were represented at the exhibition.

We all understand that the problem of Lake Baikal ecosystem preservation and rational use of its resources must be addressed comprehensively and jointly.

I hope that our cooperation will continue in future as many issues are still to be solved. According to the results of the Forum it was decided to hold it on a regular basis. The topic of water treatment will be continued to a large degree. I am sure that at the next exhibition we will get acquainted with more advanced technologies. Baikal is unique so we have to apply unique methods to clean its water.

I invite you to take part in the Second Baikal International Ecological Water Forum which will take place on 20-21 September 2018.

Sergey Levchenko
